IELTS Band Calculator

If you are an overseas non-English student wishing to study in the UKthe USACanadaAustralia, or New Zealand, you would be familiar with the IELTS exam.

The first checkpoint in your visa application procedure is the IELTS test. Since English is not your first language, you must write an English language test that evaluates your speaking, reading, writing, and listening ability and gives you a score. Thus, knowing how to calculate IELTS band scores is essential for all study abroad aspirants. It helps them understand and score more in the bands they are exceptional at, for which they can use the IELTS band calculators.

IELTS Overall Band Score Calculator

Applicants obtain band scores between 1 and 9 on each of the four sections – listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The overall band score is determined by averaging these four scores, rounded to the nearest whole or half band.

For example: Assuming a candidate got 6.5, 6.5, 5.0, and 8.0 in listening, reading, writing, and speaking, respectively, the average score would be as follows.

6.5 + 6.5 + 5.0 + 8.0 / 4.

= 26 / 4.

= 6.5.

Thus the overall score would be 6.5. However, sometimes, the average may not come up to 0.5. In such cases, the round-off is the nearest decimal. For example, suppose a candidate got 6.5, 6.5, 5.0, and 7.0, respectively, then the average will be 6.25, rounded off to 6.5. In another case of 6.75, the overall score would be 7.0.

IELTS Academic Band Calculator

The IELTS academic band score can be calculated like the overall band score. The academic band calculator averages your score based on the scores of each section you input and gives you an overall score. These are the scores you assume you will receive based on your performance. Here is an example.

For example: Assuming that a candidate got 4.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.0, respectively. The average is 3.875, which, when rounded off to the nearest decimal, becomes 4.0 as his overall score.

IELTS General Band Calculator

The IELTS general band score can be calculated like the IELTS academic band score. The entire process depends on the estimated scores you input between 1 and 9 for each section, i.e., listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

For example: For the scores of 6.5, 6.5, 5.5, and 6, the average is 6.125, which is closer to 6.0 than 6.5, so our final general band score for IELTS is 6.0.
