The Board of Regents constituted the Kennesaw State University on 9 October 1963 in Georgia. It was decided to initially name it the Cobb County Junior College, of which Horace Sturgis served as the first president in December 1964. The school opened in 1966 with the name Kennesaw Junior College, having an initial enrollment of 1014 students.
