Why is Password Skills Plus required?

Led by world-leading experts in testing and assessments, and placed 3rd in the UK, all Password English tests are formally aligned to the CEFR. Academically designed and managed by CRELLA (Centre for Research in English Language Learning and Assessment), a research group based at the University of Bedfordshire, Password Skills Plus’ English tests are designed with security as a primary requisite in mind. Test Format for the Password Skills Plus

Similar to other English proficiency tests, the Password Skills Plus test also consists of four test modules which test the areas of your Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills, which are categorised as:

  • Password Reading:

    This segment has 5 sections, wherein each of these sections will have to be completed within the allotted time for this segment. The total time that will be given for you to complete all 5 sections will be 1 hour and 15 minutes (75 minutes).

  • Password Writing:

    This segment assesses your ability to write, where you will be asked to write an essay. You will be given a choice of two essay titles. You should make sure that the essay topic that you write should be at least 200 words, and it should be completed in 30 minutes.

  • Password Listening:

    Like the Reading segment, the Password Listening segment also consists of 5 sections. Here, you will be given one or more tasks to complete where you can play the recording once, which after playing cannot be re-played, paused in between, or re-started. So it is important to give careful attention to this segment and you will have to complete all 5 sections within the stipulated time of 1 hour (60 minutes) collectively.

  • Password Speaking:

    The speaking segment also consists of 5 sections. Similar to the previously mentioned segment, there will be one or more tasks found in each of the sections for you to complete. For this segment, you will have to read the questions on the scream and then answer them by speaking into the microphone. For this segment, you can take notes to help prepare your answers. For this segment, you should complete all 5 sections within 20 minutes from the commencement of this test segment.

Password Skills Plus Fees for Indian Students

The fees to apply for the Password Skills Plus Fees for any student applicant will cost £110 + VAT (₹11894.15* + VAT - (Note - Fees cost can change with differences in the currency fluctuations)).

Password Skills Plus Duration

As mentioned above, the duration of the Password English test that is taken online is 3 hours and 5 minutes (95 minutes). Other than this, as this test is taken purely online and from the comfort of your home and convenience, you will be given an additional time of at least 30 minutes to complete the registration and security check processes.

Preparing for the Password Skills Plus Test

It is advised that before you take your Password Skills Plus test you should consider taking a full practice test. It will help you to familiarise yourself with not only the test format, but also the tasks and navigation, and it will help you receive scores for each part of the test.

Requirements for the Password Skills Plus Test

To be able to successfully take the test, you should be able to have the following document(s) and equipment as follows:

  • Ensure to know about all the test regulations and test rules to make sure that you clearly understand all about the test and adhere to the procedures instituted by the test.
  • You should have your Passport, used by Examity, to check and verify your identity. Care should be taken to ensure that it should be current, and not expired. Careful attention should be given as if you are unable to provide a valid passport on the day of your test, you will not be able to take the test.
  • A laptop or PC with a screen size of at least 15 inches, with working speakers and a microphone, can be used for the test. Usage of headphones, headsets, and earbuds is “Not Allowed”.
  • Additional peripherals such as a keyboard, mouse, speakers, microphone, webcam, etc., must be connected to the PC by cables.
  • Bluetooth peripheral devices are not permitted during the test.
  • Dual monitors, dual-screen laptops, and laptops with touch bars are not permitted to be used for the test.
  • Your device should run the operating system version of Windows 10 or 11, or MacOS 10.15 Catalina (or above)
  • You should create your online Examity account.
  • Make sure to correctly enter your full name exactly as it appears in your passport.
  • You must upload a clear, unobscured image of your passport as your identity during the creation of your profile.
  • Inability to complete this step will cancel your test application process, and you will have to purchase another test.
  • You should download the “Password Skills Plus Rules” PDF document from Examity’s “Exam Support Files” and read it carefully as you will need to open it again at the start of your test using the PDF viewer mentioned above.
  • For the test’s security reasons, you cannot appear and take the test while covering your face with any face covering, and should also, not cover your ears.
  • For additional requirements, you will have to consult Examity before the commencement of your test.
  • Browser extensions other than those required for your tests will be required to be disabled or removed for the duration of the test.
  • Make sure to set the language of your keyboard and display it in English as per the instructions sent to you.
  • You will have to take the Password English test in a quiet room with only one door that can be shut with all windows that are not see-through and other openings completely covered.
  • Make sure that you have sufficient lighting so that you and the entire room can be monitored and recorded for the test.
  • For additional steps, refer to the Password Plus Handbook and ensure to follow the steps given clearly.

Scheduling Your Test

When you are creating your Examity account, you will need to schedule your test time. You will need to do this at least 24 hours before you take your test. Once scheduled, you will only be able the schedule the next test in the next 3 months. To change the date of your test, you can do so free of charge if you have more than 24 hours before your test starts. If you have less than 24 hours, you will be charged a small fee by Examity. In the case that you feel unwell, you should consider rescheduling your test, as your test score can be negatively affected due to your poor health condition.

During the Test

As a dress code, you can wear a simple T-shirt or sweatshirt for the test. However, you are asked to refrain from wearing any scarf, tie, watch, necklace, rings, or any visible jewellery, including religious symbols, or head accessories (except those worn for religious reasons - e.g., head scarves, turbans, etc.) and they should not cover your face, ears, and should be worn on your passport photograph.

Other than the device that you use for the test, make sure that you do not have any books, papers, phones, or other electronic equipment on the table. You are allowed to use a sheet of plain paper, a pen or pencil, and a clear unlabelled bottle or glass of water. You should ensure that you can show the room that you are taking the test by panning the external webcam or mirror.

Never forget to have your current passport with you during your test.

How to check Password Skills Plus Results?

Once you have completed the Password Skills Plus test, you will receive an email update with the results, along with the result score certificate of your test within the stipulated time of 7 working days. The certificate that you will receive along with the email will be sufficient for you to attach it along with your application documents for your enrollment process to the university or college of your choice.

Your test certificate results prove that you have taken the test that demonstrates your language skills at a certain level. As such, the test result will be valid for a period of 2 years from the date of your certificate obtained from the ELT.

As the Password English test is completely online, you can take this test from your home. You can take the test upto 3 times (i.e., first test and up to 2 retakes). In the case of any short unforeseen circumstances, you can retake a second test after the first test, but in the case of a 3rd test, you must wait until 1 month has passed after the 2nd test was taken.
